Our philosophy on improving the behavior of children:  A simple model.

People talk about the metaphor of the carrot and the stick.  What it refers to is motivating a horse to do what you want it to do.  Trying to manipulate a 1,000lb beast to do something that it may not necessarily want to do is no easy task. 

So back in the day, someone figured out that there were two methods to doing this.  One was to use a carrot (positive reinforcement) and the other was to use a stick (discipline).  Now, I know that people also refer to the stick as corporal punishment.  I have been on the receiving end of plenty of that and no, I am not a believer.  Yet, I am a believer in discipline.

Here is the model we currently have…  everyone wins.  Why?  For fear of damaging a child’s precious self esteem.  Consider that this is the direct responsibility for the bullying “epidemic” we are currently in.  The kids
